Countries like Sweden and Denmark offer the perfect natural conditions for luxury outdoor lighting. The long, dark nights – due to the northern geographical location – really bring out the most in the lighting! Christian Kielberg knows this like no other. To create more ambience during the long Scandinavian nights, this Danish designer often chooses an in-lite lighting plan.

IN-LITE ALSO SHINES IN SCANDINAVIAN GARDENS

“I only work with high-end clients and products, so in-lite is the perfect choice.”

The enthusiastic Kielberg heads large-scale projects carried out by the company ConceptGardens. Their ultramodern, sleek homes and gardens really appeal to the imagination. One such project was the ‘Bamboo Lounge’ in the Gentofte district of Copenhagen.

Christian explains, “Private individuals who are spending a considerable amount of money to build a high-end home usually want an outdoor space to match and with a lighting plan with exceptional attention to detail.”

“In Scandinavia, we primarily view light as something practical. But the systems from in-lite let me show my clients that lighting is not only functional, but can also be stunningly beautiful. The in-lite concepts give the outdoor space an extra dimension. Even during the months that you do not use your garden, you can enjoy looking at it from inside your home all year round!”

The convenience of in-lite

Christian first experienced in-lite products in the summer of 2019. “I had my own construction company at the time, but during the pandemic, I discovered that I wanted to focus fully on home and garden design. This makes in-lite an interesting brand for me to include in designs because these products are not only beautiful, but also easy to install yourself. After all, there is no need to bring in an installer. And that makes my work as a designer a whole lot easier.”

Christian continues, “When designing a home and outdoor space, I try to get the client as enthusiastic about in-lite as I am. I don’t want to push the products on them, but promote the brand. The fact is, I only want to work with high-end clients and products, so in-lite is the perfect choice.”

EVO and ACE

Christian continues, “I often use the EVO and ACE concepts from in-lite because they are a perfect fit for Scandinavian gardens. Scandinavians love synergy. Whether it comes to colour, texture or design, everything needs to align perfectly. I was also able to successfully incorporate the EVO and ACE concepts into the Bamboo Lounge project. These fixtures combine well with the soothing, natural and functional style that is so common in Denmark and Sweden. The concepts make an architectural statement, making them easy for architects to work with. So, in my opinion, in-lite becomes an integral part of the garden instead of an addition. When I used EVO for the first time, the effect immediately had an emotional impact on me. Everything simply fit together perfectly. This concept is truly versatile and can be used to illuminate stairs, walls and more. A lighting plan can also be very easily modified with the EVO FLEX. The modular ACE lighting also lets me beautifully illuminate a path.”

Christian describes the eye-catching project Bamboo Lounge in the Gentofte district of Copenhagen. “The windows of this house have the exact same shape and black colour as the EVO fixtures. As if they were made especially for this home. I also used this concept to illuminate the steps of the wide, sloping path. A warm, inviting ambience combined with the Chinese bamboo gives the garden a genuinely unique character.”

in-lite also gives Christian the possibility to play with colour in the garden. “Scandinavian winters are often characterised by blue light. The Tone from in-lite lets me beautifully complement the effects of nature with warm shades verging on purple and red. This creates an almost artistic experience of light, colour and nature.”

Blue light

Christian could hardly wait to show the results of his Bamboo Lounge project in the Gentofte district of Copenhagen. “The homeowners were positive about the design from the very start, but naturally they also wondered what it would actually look like with all those fixtures in the garden. Luckily, they were madly enthusiastic when they saw their brand-new outdoor space for the first time. And for months after that, I kept receiving delightful messages from them with pictures. The experience of allowing people to enjoy their own garden to the fullest never gets old.”

Moment of truth

No matter how many satisfied clients Christian has had in his career, the moment when everything is in place is always an exciting one. “Also because Scandinavia has a short flowering season. So, the trees, plants and flowers are not always in their full glory when clients see their new garden for the first time. In some ways, that’s an advantage because it means that in-lite lighting has added value in terms of ambience and effect. And yet, even when the garden is not at its peak, I’ve only received positive responses to the lighting plan!”

According to Christian, “in-lite is a brand you need to see to believe.” “It often happens that clients think I’ve gone mad when I tell them I need eight lights for one border or up to a hundred light sources for the entire outdoor space. But once everything is in place, they see how gorgeous their garden has become. And the best part is, their enthusiasm only increases. Months later, when spring arrives and everything is in full bloom, I often receive excited messages from clients who see the interplay of colours and lighting unravel before their very eyes. This lets them enjoy their garden that little bit more. And that’s a wonderful experience to witness.”
